About Olsztyn

About Olsztyn

Olsztyn is a city where nature is always within reach. Located in the heart of the Land of a Thousand Lakes, it offers a unique blend of urban comfort and the calm of lakes and forests. Within minutes, you can walk from the city center to the scenic paths along Lake Ukiel, one of the most beautifully developed recreational areas in Poland.

The historic Old Town charms with its intimate atmosphere: the Gothic Warmian Chapter Castle, cobblestone streets, cafés, and restaurants serving regional cuisine create a welcoming setting for relaxed afternoon strolls. The city is safe, friendly, and easy to explore — all main attractions are located close to one another.

It’s a great place not only to attend the conference, but also to enjoy a short break from everyday life: close to nature, comfortable, and full of good food. A perfect city to discover during your visit.

About Popielno

The Popielno Research Station of the Polish Academy of Sciences is one of the most remarkable places in Poland. Situated on a picturesque peninsula, surrounded by lakes and the Pisz Forest, it offers a rare opportunity to observe wildlife up close — truly up close. This is where the Polish Konik, the only native primitive horse breed, roams freely. You can encounter them while walking through the forest or visit them in dedicated educational enclosures.

For decades, the Station has conducted research on animal behaviour and biodiversity conservation, with extensive enclosures and natural areas that allow for direct observation of animals in their environment. The site also features a small museum located in an 18th-century granary, showcasing the history of the Polish Konik breeding programme and the scientific work carried out at the Station — an excellent introduction to this unique place.
